Understanding Your Cycle
Ovulation is the brief window during your menstrual cycle when an egg is released and is ready to be fertilized. Knowing your exact fertile days is the most natural and effective way to either plan for pregnancy or simply understand your body's rhythm.
The Fertility Phases
- The Fertile Window: The 5 days leading up to and the day of ovulation. This is when your chances of conception are highest.
- Ovulation Day: The peak day when the egg is released. It typically survives for only 12 to 24 hours.
- Luteal Phase: The time after ovulation until your next period starts, usually lasting a consistent 14 days.
Biological Signs of Ovulation
Your body gives subtle but distinct signs as you approach your peak fertile window. A surge in Luteinizing Hormone (LH) triggers the release of the egg, which is often accompanied by changes in your Basal Body Temperature (BBT) and cervical mucus. Right before ovulation, estrogen peaks, which is why many women experience the "ovulation glow"—a period where skin is clearest and hair looks its healthiest.
However, once ovulation occurs and you enter the luteal phase, progesterone takes over. This sudden hormonal shift can raise your core body temperature, disrupt your sleep architecture, and increase sebum production, leading to premenstrual breakouts. Tracking these shifts doesn't just help with family planning; it allows you to sync your lifestyle, skincare routine, and sleep schedule with your natural biological clock.
